I have removed the bow cover on a 16' MirroCraft and am in the process of building a deck. My question is: I would like to put my two batteries under the deck. Is this the proper approach from a stability standpoint.

your opinion(s) would be helpful.

thanks.

It depend on the motor size and what other type of equipment you have on board. It would help the boat to plane out quicker, but on a boat that size I would be concerned with bow-steer at higher speeds and it would increase the wetted surface of the boat at WOT, reducing top end speed. Hope this helps??

I put a casting deck on my 16' tempest bowrider,
but kept the batteries at the back. The boat planed fast enough with them there and I didn't have to worry about the extra weight up front keeping the bow down. I always had to worry about bow weight when people were in the front as the boat tended to let the odd rogue waves in. Two batteries would have just compounded the problem.

I have one battery up front under my casting deck and the other in the center console. I had added a casting deck, chair, bow mount trolling motor, and battery, probably about 125-135 lbs and it made no difference at all in my running attitude. If your boat is aluminum I think you will see more of a difference than if it is a 'glass boat.
