This is the casting deck of my 15' fiberglass boat. It's plywood sandwiched between a top and bottom layer of fiberglass. I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to fill / repair the hole and make the repair sound, without replacing the entire deck.

I would just screw a 16 gauge stainless sheet metal patch over the hole

However if you want to scarf in a stepped plug and cover with 2 layers of 1708, that is up to you

the whole deck looks like it could be replaced. however since you didnt want to do that, the sheet metal patch would be quick and cheap.

Are you referring to the watermark in the picture from underneath the decking?

No, I'm referring to the fact that the wood is starting to rot around the hole cut in where the seat was

You can slow the rot around the hole if you chuck up an allen wrench in a drill that you can hang on to and chew the wood back between the glass and then fill it with a PB..

I like that idea too, flash.

Scott, can you elaborate a little on the stepped plug solution? I'm new to all this and would like to get a little better idea on how that solution is implemented.

Thanks.
