Hadn't fished for about 6 mo. Windy.
Decided to go out and try.
We leave about 6am still dark.
We got the boat loaded and started out.
Some one says where are YOUR poles??
I say back at the house leaning on the picnic table!!
Luckily the house was on the way from the ramp to the inlet!
Another day, I forgot the VHF and the GPS/ depthfinder.
Time to retire???

Back when all I had was a 10' john... Loaded it up on the roof of the car, drove away only to get home and my motor, rods, tackle box were still at the lake. 20 miles later, they were still where I left them. Lucky in that respect, but no fish that day. And all I drank that day was coca cola. Maybe I should have had a beer...:faint2:

Check ... got that one for ya'.

Get the boat out, wash it, stow the gear in it - yes, crank her up to make sure we're in good shape - and finish riggin' the trailer and gettin' ready.

Dive 1.25 hours to launch at a rather nice lake we don't go to very often.

Get the whole fam out, riggin' out, loading coolers, etc. And my boy asks, "hey dad, where's the key?"

... at home. On the work bench. Right where I set it down while I was puttsing before we left.

Reverse order on those sentences covers the next couple of hours.

Never going to go through that again! I've got a key stashed with all the extra transom plugs.

Stopped by the local bait shop to stock up before heading out to fish 3 day surf fishing tournament. Finished loading the cooler with bait and ice and went to check tackle supplies.
Where's the tackle bag? Called home.....sitting on the floor in the garage. Fortunately, the gear I carry in the bag are hooks and some terminal tackle. Spare line, knife, light, etc. are stored separately. I spent $50 on terminal tackle and went on my way.

If that wasn't bad enough, I did the exact same thing the following year. Stopped to get bait and met up with friends. Where's your tackle bag? I'll never live that one down.

I remember my dad lost the key to his old 16' starcraft that he had many years ago. We were actually on the lake trolling with the outboard mounted trolling motor and then picking up when he couldn't find them.. He had to hotwire it to get it back to the dock. Few weeks later, he found the keys in his tackle box. He pulled them out of the ignition because he did not want us kids bumping the ignition switch over because we were little.

Re: Cartoon.No rods??

I was a kid, 12YO at the time. I had one of those Uncle, he fished all the time. He decided to take me on a weekend trout-lining fishing trip on the Guadalupe River just above the saltwater barrier of San Antonio Bay. I went to Sugar Land,TX the day before we left. Being a kid I didn't ask about food and water supplies. A 3 hour trip, we arrived at the river about 9:00am launched and 30 minutes later started setting trotlines. This place was in the Texas Boones nothing or one around for miles.
My Uncle ask are you hunger boy, yes I replied he reached under the seat of the leaking flat-bottom we were in and handed me a stick of summer sausage and said there a tube of crackers in the dry box. Near starving I gladly wiped off the mud from the sausage used a dirty pocket knife cut off a huge chunk began eating it with the stale cracker. My uncle says take it easy boy thats all we have till tomorrow. I them asked for something to drink he said look in the cooler your aunt packed some cokes for you. I searched through the now mostly melted 20# of ice and only found 2 boxes of TV shrimp (bait) a bag of now thawed cut mullet and what looked to be 2 case of PBR and a rusty church key (old school cans). Can't find the Cokes Raymond. He plies crap I knew I left something. I had a choice cooler water with shimp, cut bait and rust or PBR. LOL what a fishing trip still love the taste of PBR on a hot summer day! Thanks Raymond for forgetting the cokes! See ya, time for a beer!

Re: Cartoon.No rods??

checked everything twice before leaving then decided to run the motor on muffs just to be sure. Thought it would be better to leave the key in the ignition so I didn't forget it. Got to the dock and the key was gone. It turns out theres enough wind to pull the key with the foam floaty out of the ignition. Also turns out that my locker key from work when wiggled will work just as well as the key.
Worst thing is I didn't learn my lesson as a few weeks later I asked the wife where the key was. "I put it in the ignition so we wouldn't forget it" luckily this time it was under the dash and had not made it out of the boat.

Re: Cartoon.No rods??

- Went out on my buddies boat and,,, no key. I got my 101 in hot-wiring a boats that day.

- Same friend on my boat this time, I forgot all the lures in my truck when we swapped tow vehicles (for whatever reason). I unhitched the trailer and drove back to his place to get my gear.

- Took the family out for a day of fishing, had everything except the tackle box, not a hook to be found on the boat. We packed it up and came back the next day with a tackle box.

Re: Cartoon.No rods??

So my kid is back from Tech school in Phoenix, wife plans a three day weekend on the lake, Leading up to the trip I'm on Fires all week or getting called in to the Jail to cover manpower shortages and all kinds of stuff, it was the week from hell, so Wednesday comes and I have to go get the Camper from storage, get it loaded, load up the boat the wife and the kids(who decided it would be a great idea to go partying the night before) and were off around noon, got a flat tire on the trailer we arrive at the lake nearly four hours later. At the Campsite I get the Camper off the truck because I hate launching the boat with the camper on the truck and it dawns on me...

Babe....did you grab the boat keys???

Re: Cartoon.No rods??

couple years ago my brother and i were drunk on my boat. sitting in the back yard. we decided it would be fun to get the male population of my family out for a "fishing trip"

we called 6 people from the boat that evening.
2 questioned us about "fishing licences"
the response: yea we took care of all that meet us at the dock
6 people showed up. the last guy to arrive jumps in the boat looks around and asks where the poles are.
I respond: dude YOU were suppose to bring the poles.
he respons......I dont have any fishing poles
me: I dont either lets go boating!

we had a great time.

First trip this year I forgot my license decal and trailer tag (I mean the whole plate). I don't know about other states but mine has a penalty for registering late, so I got my registrations in February. Plate comes off in the fall because I store outboards on roll arounds under the back of trailer. Thankfully, no one noticed on the highway or the lake.

I have 3 keys on a key ring stashed in a small tool box I keep in a locker. One for the boat, one for the lock to the spare tire and one for the lock to the hitch.

I left my (1st) ex wife at the dock several years ago. I still haven't been back to pick her up. I wonder if she is still waiting for me?

We were putting in at Sandy Point State Park in Md.
We had put in and was watching a couple try to retrieve their boat.
The guy was in the boat and the wife in the truck, the window open and the rear slider open too..
He was shouting directions as she tried (no luck) to back the trailer down the ramp.
He was gonna power load. She was trying again and again.
He was getting louder and more frustrated as she kept failing.
Then he starts swearing and says.
You dumb B(*&% I said turn the other way.

The stop lights come on and you can see she shifts from reverse into drive.
Then pulls away leaving Mr. nasty mouth floating in the ramp.
She leaves the area.
We come back about 5-6 hours later and he's still tied to the dock.
Be nice!!

Re: Cartoon.No rods??

Boat keys NEVER leave the boat, EVER ! Spare set in glove box, key in ignition swich. If its in the gargage, driveway, or docked overnight, in the water. The Admiral (Joanne) asked once about the keys being left in the ignition, she never asked again. If someone wants the boat that bad, there going to get it. Nothing easyer then hot wireing a boat.
