take a look at Carter's website and see if you can figure out which number the carb is, and the look on Jeg's or Summit Racing, you might be able to buy it for much less than Merc charged for the same thing.

If you do buy non-genuine, just make sure it is a MARINE (SAE rated) pump and has the port for the diaphragm rupture hose.

Just spend the $47 on a new pump. Summit Racing has them

I have 2 pumps for my 4.3 V6, one is a Sierra made in Korea and one is a Carter made in USA.

the fuel pump is a carter unit sold to GM who sold it to Merc. why would someone pay $130 for the korean built siera one or the $200 carter one packaged in a mercruiser box. the same carter unit is available from 30 different vendors under $50

Hi all,
thanks for all the help.
Doesn't appear to be a big deal but the carter M6973 pump has the carb vent on opposite side than mine, as pictured

Here are two more with the vent on the other side. also look at the clocking of the bottom ports.

Just as tip when you install these, on the V8s at least there is a short bolt threaded into the block that is in line with the fuel pump pushrod. You can remove that bolt temporarily and use a longer bolt of the same thread to hold the pushrod from sliding down while you try to install the pump. This is a 60+ year old trick on Chevrolet small block V8s.
BUT MAKE SURE TO remove that longer bolt and replace with the original short one before cranking it over!
On the V6 for whatever reason the pumps are very similar but are mounted upside down from the V8 position. There is no bolt threaded into that part of the block, so you have to use thick grease to get that pushrod to stay up in the groove otherwise it will fight you for a while. Bad language will follow. It's a pain.
Lastly if you have metal fuel lines, thread the fittings into the inlet/outlet on the pump, before tightening down the mounting bolts all the way. This will allow the pump to move slightly so that you can more easily start the fuel line fittings without cross threading them. I do the same thing with the fuel line at the carb inlet, loosen the carb mounting bolts first so it can move slightly, this is all it takes for the fuel line fittings to thread on easily. You DON'T want to cross thread those!

I used a bit of Permatex Aviation on the threads. Not sure about the 2 gasket question don’t recall if mine came that way have to think back.

Sometimes there's a plate/spacer between the pump and the block. That's what the 2 gaskets are for...
