Carpet/ Vinyl seam

On my 16ft runabout, on the sides of the hull, near the floor, there is a board that runs from front to rear. The shift control is mounted to this. Between this board and the hull is a space where all the leaves and crap collect. I offer this discription because I have no idea what this part of the boat is called.

Anyway, I have recarpeted and am putting new vinyl on the sides. This board is removed and I do not want to put it back. The seam, where the carpet and the vinyl meet could be hidden behind the board. But since the board is eliminated, WHAT would I use to dress up the seam? I'm thinking of a moulding of some type. Any ideas?

Could use a strio of aluminium, a strip of wood, plastic, Anything you think will look nice that can be srewed or stuck with adhesive. Check you carpet section of Home Depot. Plenty of moldings for this type of application.
