I'm in the process of recarpeting my 18' bowrider. Purchased the 20oz marine carpet from overtons. I have the widest they sell, but for the piece that covers the floor, it will not fit the piece that I removed which I used for a template. I will need to have one seam. I decided to have the carpet go up the port sidewall as far as it needs to go, this will mean I only need a seam on one sidewall instead of on both. The starboard seam will be about 6" above the floor and I'm debating if I should have a simple seam where the two pieces meet. If I do this, I've been advised to use a very sharp blade to cut a straight edge for both pieces that will run the lenght of the main compartment (no problems in the smaller bow area) by cutting it, it will be less likely to unravel in the future. My other thought is to glue the piece coming off the floor and up the sidewall for those 6", just as if I was going to do the simple joint of the two pieces, and then make the piece coming down from the top of the starboard sidewall, longer than it needs and have it drap over the the other piece. With the overlap occuring where the floor meets the sidewall. I don't think this will look as 'neat' but probably less likely to have any fraying of the carpet because there will be no visible seam where the two pieces meet? Any thoughts?
