Carb's Flooding - Need Help :)

Motor spits and sputters at low RPM.

Just replaced 2 coils. Seems to have helped.

The middle and lower carb seems to be flooding. All three
were just gone through before I bought the boat. Little
use since rebuild. Also sit for six months before I got it.

Gaskets apear in absolute new condition and carbs look
like new.

What are the things I should look for? I can pull the carbs
and clean them out thoroughly but I am wondering if there
are gas line vacuum issues I should be looking at as well?

Also, I am not sure the carb linkage is just right. It appears
that over the years some of the linkage springs have been
bent this way and that way. May be something missing in
the carb linkage as well.

Does anyone have a clear picture of the carb linkage that
I could look at? Or if you have this motor and you know
yours is correct, would you mind snapping me a shot of it?

Thanks for your help guys,
John

Surely someone here has some ideas?

Verify spark, sounds like bad wires though, coils was a good move, did they come with wires? FYI gap the plugs because they are def not gapped for our motors when you buy them I haven't found one set gapped correctly. low Torque could also be letting the cylinders leak, thus no compression, thus no firing, I have seen it before!

First thing to do would be check your compression to make sure you have something to work with. Next check the spark with an open air gap tester to make sure it will jump 7/16" open air gap. Seeing it's set for 6 months I'd take the carbs off and check for any gum and varnish and stuck needles and seats on the floats.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I checked the compression and all three are running around 105psi.

Thank you,
John

Re: Carb's Flooding - Need Help :)

I have taken the carbs off and cleaned them out. They looked OK to me. No varnish or gumming.

I did notice that the single screw on the front of each of the three carbs was about two or three turns lose. They have a screw gasket and there is no spring to indicate to me that they are some kind of adjustment screw. I tightened them up and have the top two carbs on and have not gotten to the last one yet.

I still need a picture of the carb linkage because the spring wires that are there are all bent up and I do not know where they go.

Also... I am a tad bit suspicious of the gas that sat in the tanks that came with the boat. I know it must have sit for an unacceptable amount of time.

Also... should I put an additive like Stabil (Or however) in the new gas?

Thank you,
John

PS - Coils came with new wires.

If you buy Stabil get the "blue" which is for marine use. Startron is also real good.
