Re: carborator ajustment

I'll take a stab at this because nobody has yet.

I never have adjusted the carbs on one of those but some things are generic to them.
Turn the mixture screw in just until it makes contact with the seat (do not tighten or even snug this screw, Just make contact) Now turn it counter clockwise to a good starting point would be 1 to 2.5turns. Once it is running and warmed-up turn the mixture screw clockwise 1/4 turn at a time, and wait 15 seconds..Then 1/4 more and so-on. Do this until it gets rough running .
This is the lean cut-out point of the mixture.

Now, turn the screw out (counter clockwise),1/4 turn at a time,15 second wait, past the point where it is running smooth, to a a point where it again is cutting-out.It will be smokey too.
This is the lean cut-out point of the mixture.

Now you know the operating range. Now comes the important part.
If you adjust too lean, the engine will not get enough lubrication, and self-destruct.
If you adjust too rich, plug and carbon fouling will occur more often than normal.
It is allways best to error on the side of "rich".
So with the engine running lean, again, turn the mixture screw counter clockwise until it again starts to run rough, then clockwise until it just runs smooth. This will be a tad rich....Just right.
Good luck.

Re: carborator ajustment

Gdane, the end of the mixture screw is a point, sort of like a needle). The metal this screw is made out of is very soft material,as is the seat- area in the carb body.To make a long story less long, torquing these adjustment screws down can maul this point, and the carb will become "unadjustable". And if you did get it close to running right, it wont be a stable adjustment. (run great/crappie at it's own whim).
