Joe Reeves,
Yes, the side where the float mounts to is where I kinda messed up the threw hole or wehere the float bowl attaches. The hole on the throat side or where the butterflies are at is o.k. but if I look threw the hole on the other side the float side of that same hole IO can see where I did mess it up somewhat. Does the thickness cuase a issue if not I am hoping I am all right with the threw hole becuase the diameter is exactly the same as the other threw hole beside it. I will take your advice and go ahead and build that carb and hope for the best. I am just trying to save a buck or 2 and plus I guess you can't learn if you don't do the work yourself. I am looking forward to rebuiilding these carbs and will feel great when it sounds great after rebuilding them. Thanks again for your help, Bob also does fuel go into those 2 threw holes are is it an air venturi kind of thingy. I am just curious.

I hope that video didn't cause any problems. I thought it was pretty helpful. I took the plugs out of mine. I drilled through them and then pried them out. I also bummed up that area some...more of a scratch as the drill bit went through. I learn real quick after that I need to put a stop on the drill. Mine are fine. I'm almost positive that those orfices under there control your idle. If they are plugged in the least you will have a lean sneeze condition, which is VERY annoying and not really good for the engine. I really think you'll be fine from what you said about the holes still being all the same size. On your other plug, if you decide to take it out, drill a small hold being careful not to allow the drill to fall through it and hit the body under the lead. and pry it out with a small punch. I also put mine in with a 3/8" socket extension. Just a few taps and they are nice and tight again...you don't have to hit them hard. Good luck! One thing about, everytime you mess something up or make a mistake you learn something...lets just say I've learned ALOT over the years on vehicles, atv's, and now boats. lol

The orifices (jets) that actually control the idle are located at the top front inside area of the carburetor throat. These orifices measure air, not fuel, so keep in mind that a larger ID results in a leaner fuel mixture whereas a smaller ID results in a richer fuel mixture.

The end result, as Ranger states, would be the idle fuel flow at the small holes in the carburetor throat that exists in back of the throttle butterflies.

Joe and Ranger,
Thank you for being so helpful. I went out to my garage and looked at the hole again and I shined a light threw it and compared to the other hole right beside it that I didn't hit and it looks to be the same size. Like I said I almost went right threw that hole but didn't so hopefully I will be all right. I continually have this on my mind and I will not have piece of mind until I have did the rebuilt and have it running and seeing how the engine runs with the muffs on her. That 88 is a good motor to me and hasn't let me down except for the starter solenoid going out on me at Rend Lake in Illinois and since then it has never starnded me or my family. We all love the boating and swimming and tubing/skiiing in the summer time and I can't wait to get out on the water again. I just got back from Osan Korea on the 8 March 2008 and trying to get back to normal life again. I will let you know how the carb rebuild turns out I am nervous and anxious at the same time. I bought my rebuild kit yesterday off of Ebay and hopefully will be here by the weekend if not should be here next week for sure. Take care, Bob:D
