how do I check the RWP impellor? once I remove the housing do I have to replace the gasket? I have a idea of where it is and the bolts to remove to replace it. I have an extra on hand.
Hole at the bottom of the skeg???? I have a 30 gal trash can I'll try it with. shouldn't the leg be trimmed all the way down or at least 75% or more? OH! can I have the top off the filter strainer housing while starting or should I keep closed to prevent sucking air. Not sure how else to check to see if water is circulating without burning up the impellor.

You can't run the motor at all with the cover off the screen. To do so runs the pump dry and you will cook the impellor.
Undo the screws (5 or 6) on the front cover of the pump and you can remove the impellor to inspect it without dismantling the pump any further.
However it would be wise to remove the pump and check the shaft and seals thoroughly.
A rebuild kit for those pumps is not very expensive compared to an engine rebuild.

Peter

Not that I want to find out about engine rebuilding. Just wondering. what happens when the shaft and seals go. engine overheat?
the shaft is what the impellor fits onto, the seals???? the seals for the cover to the impellor compartment??
Uh oh....
I did run the engine for 15-20 seconds twice with that cap off. guess I'll be replacing the impellor with the spare that I have tonight.

Usually will wreck the impellor only.
They need water to cool and lubricate the impellor.
The seals (2) are keep the water in the pump and the oil in the engine.
If the drain hole in the pump body has any signs of either oil or water leaks then you need to service the pump.
The pump has to be off the engine to inspect the seals.
The seals must be soft on the lip that contacts the shaft with no deep grooves worn in the shaft where the seal lip contacts it.
Bushing wear is not so critical though.

Peter

Alright Solex carb fans, what does this second nozzle do on the top of this carburetor? The other end sits submerged in the float bowl, but I've never seen it shoot any fuel while the boat is running.

(I'm referring to the one that is the lower of the two in this picture).

Also, I've been told this carb was cleaned and rebuilt recently, but I'm starting to doubt that. The boat runs fine above 2500 RPM. But when I try to idle it, it hunts constantly and won't stalls below 2000 RPM. I believe this to be a carburetor problem, but where else might this problem be stemming from?
