I recently purchased a boat with a Suzuki DT-50 on it. The motor would not start when I very first got it, I did a quick carb cleaning with canned carb cleaner and can now get the motor to start in gear only. The throttle must be pushed about 3/4 of the way forward to get the motor to start and idle. When the motor is placed in neutral it dies. I sprayed starter fluid in both carbs with the engine idling and it will die when I spray it in the top carb, but will continue to run when sprayed in the bottom carb with no change in the RPMs. Does this mean that the bottom carb is not running? Does it need a better cleaning?
Secondly, When I apply full throttle the prop spins very slowly, there is a lever under the flywheel that when pushed forward will actually increase the prop speed. Does this lever advance the timing? Seems that it is not be actuated enough by advancing the throttle forward. Also if i shift the motor into reverse then the prop will spin at speeds that seem normal... then I engage into forward and the prop will spin at normal speeds coming from reverse...answers?
Thirdly when I apply the suction ear to the motor I will get water from the exhaust port and prop (this year model does not have a telltale) but when I put the motor in to a bucket of water I now longer get water from the exhaust port?
