Motor is a 50 HP BELERE 1994 Johnson. Carb is either a Model 40 or model 50, the cover and nipple assemble are plastic, some models are metal. The mechanic said getting another carb with the plastic cover was important, I not sure why.
I got a call from my marine mechanic saying bracket that holds the float and float pin was broken. Mechanic and owner both say breaking the bracket was risk of getting carb rebuilt. I saw the bracket and it is sheared off. Is it considered an accepted risk to have carborator housing break during carb rebuilds? It appeared to me that while trying to remove pin the bracket got broken, but no one would say exactly what happened. Mechanic said he did not do work on rebuild not sure what happened. I never got an answer about what was seen during breaking down process. No one in the shop said much accept this kind of thing happens. Any thoughts on whether this is considered chance you take during a carb rebuild job? I thought that was why I hired the mechanic? Also not sure how bracket could break unless hit violently, no sign of corrosion only sign of tools holding metal on carb housing. Thanks for any advice.
