Carb Fuel Lines

1970 Evinrude 60HP 60073D
The previous owner had replaced the lines between the carbs and I think he might have undersized them. The lines on there are stretched to a wider I.D. at the connectors by about 1/8". I am replacing all the fuel lines right now from tank to carbs and would like to buy some fuel lines for the carbs too. Does anyone know the I.D. of the lines?

it should be the same size as the fuel line from the pump. i believe 1/4in.

The line from the fuel pump is 5/16" and goes into middle carb. Fuel is then fed to other carbs via a smaller line leaving the middle carb and tees to feed top and bottom.

The existing hose has an I.D of about 3/16" but I have not found fuel line that small. It is hard to get on the fittings. Also it is not fuel line as far as I know. Looks more like vacuum hose.

Called Marina and they have the hoses but the are actually separate pieces bagged! I thought they would just cut some lengths for me! So I asked him how much and he tells me $45 plus taxes for the 3 pieces!! Ouch!
For a laugh I asked him what the I.D. was and he wouldn't tell me!

You can just buy it by the foot at the local auto parts store with some new hose clamps and be out the door for $5-7 here. Yuo can show them the old lines and they will size it for you and custom cut it. $45 is unbelievable!

The problem I have is that the old lines look wrong! They look like they are undersized.

First thing, is there a reason you are replacing the lines? Are you not getting the gas flow or fuel pressure that you need? The old adage here "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" might apply in this situation.

As to the prices of the new fuel lines, perhaps this is why the previous owner put on the new lines opting for the smaller, tighter lines instead of paying out the big bucks. Either way, you can probably cut off an old line, measure the size of the fitting they are slipping onto and buy hoses accordingly.

If you are planning on putting on new lines, you don't need "hose clamps" as most of the repair shops will just hook up the fuel lines and secure them with tie wraps. Mine were tie wrapped on my motor and it ran fine and after I did my carb rebuild, I put new tie wraps on with no detrimental effects whatsoever.

the line from pump to carb is 5/16, if the others are smaller, it is either 1/4 which is 1/16 smaller, or 3/16 which is whats on there. it only takes a foot or so, to do boat carbs. i agree auto parts store.

ok thanks guys I'll get a couple of feet of 3/16" and 1/4" and be done with it.

The reason I am replacing the lines is that they are too small and they have gone hard and brittle. I will take a carb in to the store with me and try the hose on it!

i went to pep boys with the old line the jumper is jus a vacuum hose and i replaced all mine with clamps for 8 bucks and it dont leak a drop now tie wraps do work its not a high pressure situation

Actually, now that it is all a moot point, the correct hoses are molded to shape so they don't kink from the sharp bend. 333387 is $5.09 from ishopmarine.com I think that dealer saw you coming.

I hope those vacuum hoses are fuel-proof.
