Has anyone installed a aftermarket captian's choice exhaust in their boat? I have a 1999 Chris Craft 200 Bowrider with a 5.0 GI Volvo. I would want to run it above the outdrive.

If you are mechanical\handy, the job is not that bad. You may be disappointed though. The aftermarket exhaust does little to nothing for performance on that small block 305. If however, you are wanting more of that sweet v8 sound, you can't go wrong.

I have a Corsa on my 200 SS and love it, I does add performance to my boat, seems to add 2-3 miles per hour and pulls to redline faster than ducted thru the outdrive, yes I have timed it, it sounds really nice.

I have Corsa Captains Call on my 496HO (22' Crownline bowrider), and it makes absolutely no difference on the GPS speedometer or the fuel flow meter whether it's opened or closed.

It's good for making little kids jump when you crank it up next to the dock, though ....

Hate to rain on someones parade but several nice lakes around populated areas here have been closed to power boats because of excessive boat exhaust noise and several public launches near residentials closed because the general public doesn't want the noise in their neighborhood. These thru hull exhausts only add fuel to the anti boat lobbiests cause and making it more difficult to enjoy easy access to boating. Think twice before you decide to modify that exhaust system or soon only the most isolated lakes will be open to power boats.

I also have muffler "inserts" that quiet my boat down for places like that... But its rare i use them

Isnt that the whole idea of "Captain's Call" you make the decision. I dont think it is a good idea to fire it up with straight exhaust around the boat ramp, it will more than likely hinder your ability to speak to your passengers or anyone on shore. It may sound childish but I want the roar of the open exhaust while I am cruising through the big parts of the lake, isnt that why we all have boats, to enjoy a rediculous toy! There are idiots all over, and some people will ruin it for everyone else.

Yes...installed myself. I opted for side exhaust and no extra support was done. Corsa provides install instructions. The hardest thing for me was getting up the nerve to cut into the hull...

Now have new boat...won't do it again...I found it to be a lot of $$ for just noise. Still liked the noise though.

If you do the switchable (Quick & Quiet plus in the Corsa nomenclature) and purchase new, the parts alone will run $1500. I'm guessing another few hundred for a professional install. There will be no performance difference with your 5.0.

There is a non-switchable option called Quick & Quiet II; routes exhaust to both the transom and the hub. It goes mostly out the transom at idle, more out the hub when running so combined with the baffled exhaust tips it isn't all that loud at speed. It'll be cheaper to do it this way but you won't be able to switch from loud to quiet.

There are also a couple of other options other than Corsa; they're cheaper, but not by much. For example, Hardin Marine makes an air actuated system that's a few hundred cheaper than the electrically operated Corsa system.

Now you're probably telling yourself; "I can just run the exhaust straight out the transom, skip the thru prop exhaust and save a BUNCH of money"....sorry, that won't work either. You'd have to put block off plates where the y-pipe goes down to the transom assembly and that usually means pulling the motor. A lot less in parts, but a lot more in labor.

I love that V-8 sound as much as anyone, but it's going to be an expensive project any way you look at it. Sorry to be Sgt. Buzzkill here.

Re: Captian's Call Exhaust

yeah, I hate to be discouraged to do something but $1500 is a pretty good chunk for a novelty. Hopefully I will run across one at a salvage yard one day. boo.

Here's a couple shots of my old boat, a Wellcraft Nova (260 Merc).
I installed the Corsa system myself and gotta agree- it didn't add performance, just more sound.
Is it worth the effort and expense? In my humble opinion, NO.
