Re: Can't wait to check in here after Labor Day!

The County Sheriff Dept has a Boston Whaler that's well equipped for policing the river in my area.

I saw them at the little public ramp down below me where they had nailed a teen on a jet ski and given him a rather large fine. He was raising H in front of the ramp (and no wake sign). He was arguing with them that he was the only one there and trying to get the thing working properly. He had no documentation for the vehicle and was suppose to have a water craft training course and proof he had passed the test for the course. (if born after Jan 1, 82)

Later I saw a boater who was having some trouble and the Sheriff's boat was tied up along side him. The guy had tied up to a Nun Buoy to work on his problem. He thought the Sheriff was there to give him a hand. Was he surprised to be cited for tying up to a "navigational aid".

But used boats have been a dime a dozen around here with the high prices of fuel in the last year or so. And the newbies who buy them figure all they have to do is have the seller take them on a check ride so they know how to operate it and the rest is just having fun.

One of my River Boat Captain buddies I've known for years tells me that Saturday Mornings are the worst for him as these Bass Boaters go flying by him in the fog like torpedo's with their kids with them. He says it's a good thing he's still blowin one long and two shorts every 15 seconds. He figures about all they have in the water is the prop & skeg. Seems the boat dealers sponsor these fishing tournaments where part of it is fishing and part of it is racing to help their sales.
They fly by my place, as I live on the River, and some of them even have Nascar Decals on the hulls.

So the angels of the River must be working overtime in my area. No one has gotten themselves killed this year.
