Hi all, hopefully simple answers.... (MerCruiser 3.0L on 1996 Bayliner 1950 Capri)
I just bought a boat Wed. At the boat, the prior owner turned it over no problem and it purred, not rough, nothing but quiet. He had repair papers and history to original owner (2 prior owners). So, now two days later, I get the boat to the water, try to turn it over and nothing, just turn, turn, turn, turn, but no ignition. So, here's some of the immediates...
Yes, the kill switch was in the run position.
Another couple of boaters near by mentioned that while I was trying to run it, I probably flooded it... and I did... Ok, so now I take it out of the water, back to my place, put on the water ear things to hook the hose to, so I can try to get it started at my place first, then take back to the lake.
Tried starter fluid directly into the carb after letting gas evaporate out (sitting over 1/2 hr) tried to fire, still wouldn't turn.
My latest was to check the spark plugs, but unsure. I took all 4 out, and went to get 4 new ones and plan to install them tomorrow. The 4 plugs I took out were all black... apparently from the flooding... could this "blackening" of the spark plugs be preventing a good spark? aside from the replacement (oooohhh $10 new plugs)...
Also, got 5 gals of fresh gas (planning to add to his left-over from last year).
