Can't remove trim tab

I have a 1997 Mercury 40 HP two stroke. Need to replace the impeller (I hope that's the problem with the water pump). Anyway, in trying to remove the lower housing, I can't remove the trim tab. All the videos I've seen show a bolt on top of the trim tab, but not on mine. I assume there's a bolt underneath. Anyway, I've tried to pry open the trim tab, but no luck. I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing. Any suggestions? My boat is about kept a few miles away. I should have taken a picture. I will when I go back out there today.

Whether the bolt goes from the top or the bottom depends on your engine s/n. Do you have it?

Re: Can't remove trim tab

I figured it out. I had to remove a tab at the top, and the bolt was deep down inside the lower casing. Needed an extender on my socket wrench to get to it.
