Starting work on my trailer and I wanted to remove the rollers as the new ones will be here in a day or two. I have three rollers, one at the post and two which the keel rolls on.

The two which the keel rolls on have an alum cap at either end of the shaft that the roller fits onto. I tried to pry these caps off with a wide blade scrrewdriver on either end and they don't budge.

Remembering back when I was putting together tricylces for my kids there was the same type of "axle cap" on either end of the axle rather than a nut.
I had to pound these things on with a hammer and they rarely came off. Each cap had a "lip" on the inside that "locked" onto the exle which kept in in place.

Now, with my trailer, how do I remove these things with destroying each one ? When I ordered my new rollers I didn't see anything like these for the roller shafts.

you probably needed to order new shafts and caps or pins. I just replaced mine and several ofthe shafts were badly pitted. The shafts were like $2 each and the pins caps 20 cents or something.

The caps are called "pal nuts", I just looked at afew online stores and found them too.

Found exactly what I needed @ iBoats store. I went to a different web source for the rollers as they were priced a little better.

Thanks again......................

JP, your boats on bunks right? Get rid of all but the front roller and set it up so the boat only guides with it and never rests on it.

Trust me, you don't need them and the last thing you want is your boat riding on them. I speak from the voice of experience not hear say.

When you tie it down for transport, put the backstraps on first and cinch them at least twice. Then pull the bow down with the winch so you are barely touching the front roller. Drive forward a couple of feet and hit the brakes then get out and recheck your tie downs.

That boat won't go anywhere and your won't crack your keel or split your chine.

You have to be careful with temepered aluminum.

A place called Academy Sports also has the shafts made by C.E. Smith at very reasonable prices, better than Bass Pro. Northern Tool also has the pal nuts at a good price.

Keep the rollers they are there for a reason, to keep the hull from scraping across the cross members. true you want most of your weight on the bunks rather than the roller. my boat does not even touch the rollers once loaded, but the keep would be in real bad condition if i did not have the rollers. especially if you use different ramps.
