Hi guys

I have a bayliner Capri with mercruiser 3.0l I/0 and alpha 1 leg 1990

I have not long bought this boat , on the first outing I felt disappointed with the speed and performance then relised that there was emulsified oil in the engine

I stripped the engine down got it skimmed and rebuilt

Now it sound great but I can't get the engine over 3000 revs still , that's with two on the boat just myself I can get it just over 3000 rpm not much though

It will rev high out of gear and I have checked the the carb is fully opened when throttle is down

Any ideas that might get me going a bit quicker

Thanks guys

Hey Steve welcome to Iboats....
at the beginning of this Mercruiser forum, there is a "sticky" link
"Adults Only"

click on it. there is tons of great info there. including a section of troubleshooting:
List of possible causes of low WOT (Wide Open Throttle) rpm

Any motor will rev high on muffs(no load on motor). Check compression first.....then Check spark on all cylinders with spark tester. You've probably got a cyl or 2 not firing.

Thanks for the reply bonairII Defo Firesign on all cylinders though I will check the compression to see if there is any tell tale signs

The engine sounds sweet

What kind of prop do you have on it? If the previous owner put a prop on with too high of a pitch, it'll work just great in air with the muffs on, and great out of gear, but will bog down in water in gear.

Verify the RPM. What speed? Preferably GPS. we can help zero in on this with more info.

And keep on posting, I love your use of words. Same language, different expressions. Never skimmed a motor or head before today!
