So I have been trying for weeks to get this dang thing running. Have no spark and it has a new CDI unit and plugs. Friend told me that the stator could be the problem. So I have been trying to remove the flywheel and keep breaking the bolts on my puller. Grade 8. This morning I launched one of the bolts into space! Armstrong would be proud! So, question is... 1974 75hp... How am I gonna get this fly wheel off??

Careful use of a propane torch to heat up the flywheel around the hole. Also when you get the grade 8 bolts evenly tightened up, hit the top of the big bolt on your puller with a hammer like you're driving the bolt downward. Hit it hard, no wimpy taps. This will shock the joint where the flywheel is stuck on the crankshaft snout and hopefully break it free.

That puller may be too flimsy / bendy.----You are tightening the 3 bolts and then giving the center bolt a bump with a hefty ball peen hammer ?

The picture shows only 2 bolts being used, I take it you were using three. That puller looks pretty sturdy. As raceone said tighten all three bolts evenly and then rap the end of the puller. There is plenty of pull on the flywheel from the energy it took to stretch them when they are torqued as you noticed when one went flying.

Do not use that long bolts, try to have the balance puller as close to the crank end as possible. Set the flywheel under some force by tigthen the bolts BUT not to hard, you will strip the threads.
Give the center of the puller a hit with a big hammer then it would come loose.
If not, heat the flywheel and crank end as pnwboat suggest and do the same procedure as I described.
BTW If it is a 74 75Hp with the belt driven distributor and battery fed CD box the stator has nothing to do with the ignition except it will charge the battery which has to feed the ignition with 12VDC power.
This ignition system need 12VDC from the battery to work.

You should never have to resort to heating these expensive parts !!----Get a hefty puller.-----Cheaper than damaging parts under the flywheel !

Before you damage anything: outboardignitiondotcom has test procedures for your motor.
Test it and then figure out the problem.
Then if you want to remove the flywheel?? get a BIG 3 jaw puller and try that.
In some cases the flywheel just about welds itself to the crank, then you might need an acetylene torch.
The flywheel in the pics didn't come off until I used heat.
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND HEAVY GLOVES. First time I saw someone remove a flywheel he ended up with 12 stiches in his hand.

Well, on that note, I guess I will just start all over. The last time I had spark it appeared to be quite weak.

Maybe it was the plugs that showed weak spark?
I always try to get someone to hold it when I'm trying to get spark.
Then I can tell how strong the spark is by how loud they scream. :)
Big stick or heavy insulated screwdriver, hold the plug against the block and see how big the spark is or get a spark tester that has the gap already set up on the tool and then you can say the spark jumped 1/2 or 9/16 ??
Spark on my weed eater is so small you'd think it's not there until it bites you or the motor fires!!!
