Hey guys, I'm new to the forum here. I recent got an old mercury 7.5 2 stroke for 30 bucks. It runs good once it gets started, however it has a massive oil leak out of the prop seal. Now I have been able to find a seal, but I would like to be able to find a kit in case i need any other o rings or seals. I can't find one anywhere for a 1973. Does anyone know of one? Also if anyone has a link to a socket for that pesky retainer nut that would be great as well.

It appears that the Sierra 18-2628 seal kit may fit your motor, even though it says it is for 1975 and up. iBoats.com should have it.

Old Merc's and a few other places may have the retainer nut tool

See below for what it looks like . . . It is pricey . . .

Piece of pipe and weld some key stock on it.----Or piece of pipe and grinder to leave 2 or 4 lugs.

You might check the threads on the gearcase. After some time, they seem to fade. That makes it hard to install the retainer after the seals are renewed.
