Territories matter.

If folks in the great wonderful world of Europe would tend to their territory, folks in other territories would not be getting misleading information.

If not for folks in one territory, then folks in other territories would all be speaking German today.
If not for folks in one territory…the other wouldn’t exist Perhaps. There are more Scottish and Irish heritage in the US than there is in Scotland and Ireland.
The man often credited with the beginnings of the US navy is from a place around 20/30 miles from me now. Lots of shared origins to be proud of for sure. Can’t we all be civil and friendly 👌

To the OP the "experts" should have asked for pics of the hood and powerhead. Especially the cdi box. That motor was relatively unchanged through out it's run. So pics are a must

Just think how all of this posting about letters on the lower right of the tag has helped the OP that said
"the boat is a 88 . cant find any tags on the motor to identify it. the two plates on the bracket are not there. is there a hidden spot on the engine to help me identify it ?"

another useful post. Thanks ! I’ll need to give in on this one. Initially tried to help the fella out..only to get useless, silly and offensive posts from the flanks…for what reason, I’m not sure. I won’t probe any further…often when things like this happen…the guy doing it can be suffering personal unrelated issues. Hope you get through what ever it us that’s responsible for your conduct. Genuinely…all the best with it.
exactly how did your posts do anything to help the OP, since he said his motor does not have the bracket stickers you were telling him to look at?

He said that after I suggested it would depend where the fella was from. You’re getting silly about this now. We could all be clever and smart arses with the advantage of hindsight. If only I could go back in time and invest in apple and Microsoft eh ! I’ll bow out on this one now fella. Take it easy…

No worries. Fair point. Not the first time I’ve been guilty of missing details, I’ll admit.
Let’s call it quits at that then. There has been enough back and forth already.
I’d rather discuss more interesting stuff for sure. I presume we have one thing in common at least ? I’m a huge fan of old school yam 2 strokes. Can’t stop collecting the smaller ones. I’ve a couple of Malta 3hp (think you guys just called them the 3). Also have a 93 and a 99 Yamaha 8hps short shafts. Just amazing engines I think. Not sure about their worth over there these days, but here, they are so sought after and fetch silly money. Guys will pay an easy £700 for any sort of good 90’s model…and closer to £900-1000 for a late last of them model from 99-2000’s.
I rarely use them…but they can sit dormant in the garage for years…then if I take the notion…fresh fuel primed in, choke on and a bit of throttle…2 pulls will have them sputter…choke in a little and throttle and they will always fire up on the 3rd pull. After literally years unused. Amazing things.
Massive fan of the early 80’s 55 and 85hp engines. Still so many of them on boats around here. Even some from the late 70’s. The mighty v4 115-140 again are unbreakable too. I could go on all night and bore the life out you ! Anyway. I’m getting off the posters’ topic now.

All is good,
I never played with or worked on Yams until I picked up my 99 C40 in 2008.
been helping relatives and friends with them since then.
service manuals and common sense comes in handy for all make and models of motors.
I am one of those that needs to understand how things work, so I dig deep sometimes no matter what I am dealing with.
currently working on a frig my brother gave a sister.
burnt stat contacts on original stat, maybe power blips during a hurricane.
the aftermarket one I installed has melted plastic around the contacts, and would not turn off, had to unplug
installed a delay timer with a new stat, and sometimes it cycles on and off too quickly so causing compressor to fight the head pressure even with the time delay relay in line.
probably too fast of drop in voltage and re energizing
electronic relays are a pain sometimes.

I will figure this out also, eventually
