Maybe you are ashamed of where you are.

My goodness. Have I wronged you in another life. That’s the European chart. I’m certainly not ashamed of where I live. I live on the Bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Not far from where some of your founding fathers would have had roots.
Have I given enough info for you ? Anything else you need ? Zip code or credit card details ?

well, we finally got an answer to a simple question that you thought was rude and silly,
what are the chances that chart will help the OP of this thread?

So this is a local engine I’ve photographed for an example. She’s a 1989 Yamaha 225 v6 2 stroke.

Depends where he is. As mentioned in my first post. Europe is a big place.
Is that data tag picture I sent above of any sense to you guys over there ? Not sure how similar they are.

Over here at least…the year can be told by the letter that’s down the bottom right corner of the serial tag plate. Letter on its own bottom right.
well, I see no mention of Europe in your 1st post, that is why I asked about where is here to you

Boscoe already posted on how the tags look around here and that lower right letter meaning

This is a US website. Although obviously being available worldwide to all. Except to Russia for the time being.

It would be helpful to those asking questions to say what country they are in. And to give us the primary ID of the motor. But that seems to be a pipe dream. We can barely get much information at all. That is to be expected from the newbies.

With respect to those offering advice, and who should have some knowledge of Yamaha outboards, it would be helpful to say to what their knowledge applies to. For instance, on Yamaha US motors the letter in the lower right hand box is not the model year indicator. For Yamaha motors in other countries it just might be.

Yep, rude from where i sit (Eastern side of Newfoundland, Canada). You could just ask "where are you located?" or click on the name for their details.

Why make a reader, having expertise and willing to help, have to send out a search party to find needed information?

What is Yamaha Europe doing since the elimination of model years here in the USA?

Does the PID label still have a model year code in the lower right hand corner?

Is it still referred to as a model year motor or is it now a production year motor?

Is the production year 01/01 thru 12/31 or is some other period of time?

Word of warning do not get sucked in. These two see Yamahas as their private purview and are very territorial>

Depends upon where "over there" is.

To those in the USA, operating Yams distributed by Yamaha USA, it makes no sense at all.

Territories matter.

If folks in the great wonderful world of Europe would tend to their territory, folks in other territories would not be getting misleading information.

If not for folks in one territory, then folks in other territories would all be speaking German today.

Thanks FS…I’ll know better next time I think. Sounds like there are no Yamaha’s in the US that came from Japan 😂

Just think how all of this posting about letters on the lower right of the tag has helped the OP that said
"the boat is a 88 . cant find any tags on the motor to identify it. the two plates on the bracket are not there. is there a hidden spot on the engine to help me identify it ?"

Boscoe has tried to give him some info on how to find a way to get that info he was looking for.
hopefully the op will find the ones Boscoe mentioned and post them up

another useful post. Thanks ! I’ll need to give in on this one. Initially tried to help the fella out..only to get useless, silly and offensive posts from the flanks…for what reason, I’m not sure. I won’t probe any further…often when things like this happen…the guy doing it can be suffering personal unrelated issues. Hope you get through what ever it us that’s responsible for your conduct. Genuinely…all the best with it.
