cannot remove motor

i have a 115 v4 evanrude motor that im replacing with a rebuilt unit im having trouble removing the power head with all the bolts and nuts removed i still cannot lift the motor off. the problem is that the 2 threaded rods behind the exaust cover seam to be frozen in place i tried wd40 for a couple of days and had no luck is heat a good idea like a torch of some type please help thank you

You got three long bolts on each side, two 1/2" nuts in front and the two at the rear under the exhaust cover and shift rod disconnected. If you got all of these and the head won't pop, try this.....put the nuts back on the studs under the exhaust housing just enough to get a full nut. Slide a flat pry bar under the nuts and pry up....may have to use a small piece of wood under the pry. Just use some caution here so the studs aren't bent. This has worked a few times for me.

i have tryed and pryed on those bolts for hours with no luck any more ideas

She must be stuck pretty good speed. Do you have a lift of some sort that you can lift the head. The weight of the midsection hanging from the head sometimes helps to get the head to come lose. This a saltwater engine?

i have also tryed that to with no luck i got the front 2 studs loose that way by lifting the motor and using a hammer but the back 2 still hold and yes this is a saltwater engine i even used a propane torch to heat the loose but that still didnt work would a hottor tourch work and heat those bolts till the red then try lifting it i was also thinking that i would put 2 of the long bolts in the rear most holes and lifting the motor a few inches and placing bars under each bolt to push every thing as i lower the lift do you think that will work thank you for the help

i am going thru the same ting rt now for 2 hours now,, dremal grinding evrybolt i can fine the of teh block is coming loose a litle but something is stillholding it,i have the powerhead and mid section between 2 trees on a comealong !wher are these bolts u guys are talking about?and why is dumb *** johnson useing cheap zinc coated bolts!,,lol anyone have a diagram where the bolts are? the heads are all rusted to a crispy shape,, dzoolk@aol.com send diagrams! ,thanks!

there are 2 bolts under the lower cover that go trrough a water jacket on the lower housing you can see them looking directly from the back inbetween the bottom cover and lower housing i tried some heat with pb penatrating oil but not to hot at the same time lifting the motor and a good whack of a slegehammer on a 4x4 post my motor was shot so i did not care about damaging it but all in all it took me 3 weeks of this to get those 2 bolts if the motor is shot start pulling much of it apart to get the pb in there ang while you at it dont forget to change the thermostats good luck

Speed....there are also two short bolts in the front holding the power head to the adaptor plate. These are just in back of the nuts on the front studs. Did you get these off to?<br /><br />Lower unit off?

All I can say is "perserverance"<br />But drop the lower unit before you perservere any more. Just to make sure you don't damage the crank.

i got the motor off last season dzoolk had the same problem this season and asked about the 2 bolts that i had troble with but thanks for the help earlyer
