Hello,

I working on my 87 bayliner capri with 2.3L and I'm repairing some old wire that come off the coil due to cracking and bare wire showing. but when i pulled off the harness I found a 3rd gray wire that has been cut. I don't know where this wire goes and I cant find it in any wore diagrams. Has anyone else seen this?

I thought i had everything right, The positive side of the coil I have the two purple wires and the Negative side i Had the two grey wires and then black wire that goes to the distributor,

Whats this other wire for?

Grey wire is tach signal, could have went to a rev limiter

If the original owner had changed his ESA to the newer style, the overstroke switch on the switch plate may have been removed. Is it still there?

No rev limiter on that engine.

Everything on the boat is OE, thats why I dont understand why there is 3 grey wires, As far as I can see there is a grey wire for tach and grey wire for ESA so why the third

There should be 3 wires on the negative post of the coil. How many do you have?

1) Tach
2) ESA
3) Distributor

my guess from looking at the pic, what ever two wires you have going to the left will most likely be a replacement component that replaced the component that was connected to the wire that was cut.

however looking at the other two grey wires, you may soon have an issue there as the wires look rough.
