Hello everyone. I was wondering if it was safe to run a 2001 Yamaha 60HP 4 stroke dry of gas by disconnecting the fuel line? I have heard some people say you can and some say you shouldn't. I tried it once but the fuel pump starting knocking so I shut the motor off immediately.I want to be able to do this when I won't be using the motor for awhile plus I'll drain the carbs. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Why do you want to run it dry? Won't work in any case, lots of fuel will remain in the carbs and lines. If you are worried about the fuel going bad put in some stabilizer.
