I want to patch a crack in my hull but want to temporarily patch it with marine tech, until I get our other boat in the water next week before trying to flip the boat over and glass the crack properly. Will the glass adhere to the marine tech?
Thanks,
Dennis

Big D,

I do not see why not. Marine Tex is very stable, once cured.

BigD,

I had exactly the same problem and used fiberglass bondo. It is the Green Bondo with fiberglass strands in it. It was VERY Strong and held up fine until I did the repair properly. not sure what marine tex is .... but if it's similar it worked for me.

Use epoxy resin and your choice of fiberglass cloth...

Only epoxy resin will adhere properly to Marine tex...

Polyester resin will not stick...

Resin will not cure over certain types of epoxy or there will be a a weak spot of soft resin over the epoxy...test first....Epoxy WILL harden over resin and epoxy.

Re: can you glass over marine tech?

Well, turns out after getting the marine tex their was a phone number in the package for info and in the directions it said for large holes to use it with fiberglass cloth for added strength. Their rep. said that was correct also. I put it on Wed. afternoon, and plan on using the boat on Friday. If I don't sink I'll post on how it held up after one trip. Thanks for the replys and help. I guess when I go to redo it, if necessary, I'll heed the advice and stick with epoxy. After looking around that area you can definitly see that it had hit something on that side and bottom.
Thanks again,
Dennis

Well, the patch held, we spent all day Fri. on the water. After checking it out after we got home it looks like it got black marks from the trailer rollers, and where I ran the patch over the bottom paint where it was not sanded some of the material came off. Guess I'll check to see if they are not bound up.
