Can this be fixed easily?

Hi guys,
I was cruising along at the end of the season last year when my motor started struggling and suddenly I heard a bang. When I looked at my motor (1980 25hp mercury outboard), I saw that one of my spark plugs had blown off the back, taking a small piece of the engine with it (pic below). Can I just get this welded? If so, how likely is it that the motor has other problems that would make it useless to try to fix it?

Personally, I'd look for a new head. And then when removing the old head you can see if there are other issues you need to look into. I honestly don't think any type welding would repair that anyways. I would take the old head off now before buying anything else just in case there are other issues. And make certain IF you have no other problems, that you use a new head gasket and torque the head bolts to the proper torque and sequence. I'm sure others will reply as well with their ideas...

????--------There is no cylinderhead on that motor !!!----No head gasket either.------Personally I would look for a new block.----Lots of used blocks available.

So am I looking at a water jacket with the head built onto the cylinder block? Either way no welding is going to hold!

That's the chrome bore block......be careful as your piston wont work in Mercosil blocks.
