Can someone tell me what this is?

I just changed the fuse block on my boat and did some rewiring. There's a wire that comes from my ignition to this object in the pic then to the fuse block. Can you tell me what this is and is it necessary to have or should I just bypass it? I know the saying is "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" just curious on what it
Is.

It is a warning horn, normally found in the remote control. Usually used to warn of an overheat condition.

yes, looks similar to the warning horn on my etec.on mine it sits right beside the system check gauge .actually behind but you know what I mean.

It's to warn you if the engine is overheating?

Yes. There is a sender switch on the cylinder head(s). If the motor overheats, it closes the switch, setting off the horn.

Best to also make sure it works. Look for a tan wire coming out of the cylinder head(s). It should have a connector in the line. Disconnect the connector and with the key ON, engine OFF, short the wiring harness side of the tan wire to an engine ground. The horn should sound. If you have a V4 or V6 engine, check both sides. If it's not working, find out why and fix it. It's a simple system.
