I have a performer T-bird deluxe 16'(Don't know the year). I have a 1974 mercury outboard, was wondering if this motor is to heavy or to much hp.

Thank you
Daniel

Re: can my boat handle 80 hp

yeah it can handle it...the question is CAN YOU!:p

lol I have a 14 ft Glaspar G3 with a 75hp evinrude.......
I have seen smaller boats than yours with 200hp......very extreme and NUTS but it is what it is.........

if youre just looking to tool around safely....a 60hp or less is better suited...but the 80 will be fine too (just a bit stern heavy) just dont punch it too much!

I do not see 80hp overpowering a 16' hull unless it's simply a hollow shell of aluminum like an oversized Jon boat or something of the like.

The weight difference between the 60hp and 80hp evinrude v4 is only 3 lbs, don't know about merc.
My 16' fibergalss boat has a 70hp limit, the max rated hp depends on hull and transom design.
