Can I use this Y pipe

It has a broken dog ear but was on the boat like that before. I took it off for an unrelated isse. Someone mentioned I could put a washer on it. Trailered so its not sitting in water. Motor is out. Id rather not spend more on parts than i already am. If I water test it before motor goes in and its good should it stay good. Clean unit. Shame to toss it but its an important seal

yeah you probably can use it with a washer to make sure it bites, could also fins a local welder to repair it. If it were mine I would weld it up and not screw around with a seal that could sink a boat

My concern with a washer is snapping the remaining ends when I Torque it down if it's uneven pressure . It's only 26FP so I would think not and possibly the safer bet. Having someone weld it and not having it perfectly flush has it's own concerns, the o ring is mighty thin

Would have the welder face the sealing surface on belt sander etc. If there is a local machine shop that can weld aluminum should be no issue but do as you like

If that is salt water exposed, good luck finding a competent welder to rebuild it. The salt really f-up aluminum. Remember, this pipe can sink you!

I might just replace it with a good freshwater used one. I have one for my Cobra that I bought from NLA Marine it literally looks brand new. Still running the original one, if you can believe it, 20+ years of salt water use.

When I did my 4.3 swap the y-pipe didn't mate correctly to the transom plate, 1 hole missing. The vee engines apparently used a different plate. I don't remember the specifics (I think I posted about it during my swap thread somewhere). Someone else had used the pipe and transom plate without issues so I gave it a shot. While the boat has sank since then, that wasn't the cause. No issues in four plus years.
