Re: can i paint the boat?

for that boat you just want a cheap cosmetic effort. scrape it, wash with TSP and repaint with housepaint--go to the paint store and get a can from the mis-mixed pile.

If it were me, I would rough up the surface, get rid of the peeling and such, primer and repaint with a good enamel. No need to spend a bunch of bucks and time with it. The point is fishin...right? I have owned a bunch of smaller fishing and fun type boats and painted a bunch of them with spray enamel from Walmart. Nothing fancy and they looked good. Go have some fun.

I would just want to add that I'd test an area before doing the whole hull. Some paints don't like being on top of other types of paints and you'll have a complete mess if they don't work together. It could pull the rest of the old paint up and you'll have a wrinkled mess on your hands.

I messed up a tinnie with oil base exterior latex house paint over indoor latex, so yes do a test first . I found the exterior latex was oil base,, that hates water-bace indoor paint of any kind.

As long as you rough up the paint most anything will stick whether you are running over water based to oil or what have you. If you wish, seal the paint with a good sealer--home depot can help you with that--and then spray paint the hull with a good enamel. You can use one of those spray can handle deals I see at HD or the car shop. I use one and it works well and better than pressing down with the tip of your finger. You can also roll and tip (lots of good videos on youtube or interlux website). Spray is easy, just be patient with it and do multiple coats.

you have to remove all of the old paint with sandpaper..Google interlux brightside... tip and roll and you will have enough info to do the job right and perhaps beyond your expectation's..By the way you will end up right back here.Just do a search for roll and tip.

Like was mentioned, knock the loose stuff off, wash it down with TSP or some good degreaser like formula 88, dry it real good and get some gloss latex, your choice of color at home depot/lowes and go to town...like you said it aint a million dollar boat, just go fishin...
Not gonna last forever or look the greatest, but at least it will have some shine and be all one color...
