Re: Can I move my 3000 pound bass boat with a lawn tractor

I do this with my 23ft Rinker. The boat weighs about 5000lbs. There are times when the front of the tractor get a little light but with some patience it can be done. I also use my tractor to move my 27ft travel trailer around. But I have to coounter weight the front of the tractor to do that.

A few things to consider are:
1) what type of tractor (mine is 2360Kubota)
2) flat ground vs hills/slopes
3) ground condition- pavement/grass/gravel
4) where you connect the trailer-the farther back from the wheels the more difficult it is
5) tongue weight of the trailer-this relates to item above
6) is additional weight on the front of the tractor required? how to attach it

Re: Can I move my 3000 pound bass boat with a lawn tractor

A few years ago, I was given an older 12hp Craftsman rider that supposedly didn't work. One fresh battery and some carb cleaner, and I've got one heckuva yard machine. I welded on a hitch plate and it drags my utility trailer or boat from backyard to the front. I hate driving the truck across the lawn and creating ruts, so this is the best option for me. I'm on a flat half acre, so moving by hand takes too much effort. Take it slow and controlled, you should be fine. Besides, you have to give your neighbors something to talk about once in awhile, right? Last time I moved the boat out, the neighbors started filming me!
