Can base of back-to-back seats be cut shorter for low boat?

My boat currently only has makeshift seating and I'm looking to put new (or used) seats in it. I'd like back-to-back lounge seats that fold flat but most of the ones I see for sale come on a 10-inch base, which would be very tall in my boat. I have a 1977 Cee Bee Avenger model 150 which has no windshield and is pretty low on the sides too. I think I would like the seat to be 6-8" above the floor height.

Has anyone cut the base shorter on the back-to-back seats so the seat isn't so high up off the floor? Would this be easy to do? I have tried to find pictures of the base and hinge mechanism to see how easy it would be to modify but haven't had any luck.

For example, here's one of the back-to-back seats I see for sale: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Wise...i3rAeVrB8suBpz9vNZMaAh6wEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

welcome aboard

cut the base down. its only plywood covered in vinyl. unbolt the seats, remove staples, peel back vinyl, cut base, re-locate t-nuts, re-staple vinyl (use monel staples), remount seats, install in boat.....go boating

iboats sells seats....they are also the sponsor of this wonderful forum

And iBoats sells lounge seats with an 8" base, just got some a year ago.

And the base is molded plastic on the ones I got.

Thanks for your quick replies! I have been looking at seats all over including the iboats online store.

GA_Boater do you know if the plastic base is hollow? I'm assuming I would need to make new mounting tabs or a bracket of some sort if I cut off the bottom of the base.

Not hollow, solid plastic. The corners interlock and the upper and lower cross supports fit into notches. The bottom cross bars which attach to the deck, won't have notches after cutting the bottom off the base. I got these - http://www.iboats.com/Back-to-Back-L...view_id.473666

One problem after shortening the base is the support leg will be tall and the seat won't lay flat. With no windshield I don't think you can cut off enough to get you down.

The first page in the install instruction is for the seats I have - https://www.wiseseats.com/lounge-seat-installation
