this is the 72 100esl got forward n reverse with the garden hose,but when i put it in the river it gets stuck in forward,bring it home got water in the lower end,ill drain it ,put new oil in lower end hook the hose back up got all 3 gears,back in the river,same thing ,whats wrong where to start,thanks

That unit shifts on oil pressure. Its preloaded to forward. Once the oil is thinned out at all it will default to forward. Find and fix the water leak.<br /><br />And you must use the correct oil.

Type C or Premium blend from Dealer... more then likely your vent and drain screw seals are leaking. Replace those little round seals and see if it still leaks. If that doesn't work then do a pressure test on the LU to find the leak.
