I didn’t realize you were serious. It’s a compound bow. I was up in a tree when I took that picture. Here is a pic of the whole thing.

I have to wait for the crops to come out, where I hunt is ag country 85% of the ground cover is crops. I will be hunting with a cross bow I had to retire my bow.

I imagine a crossbow might be in my future. But I’ll hang on to the compound as long as I can. I shoot off and on all year long. That seems to keep the strength and muscle memory going

A buddy hurt his shoulder and went to a crossbow. He loves it. I have only shot at targets with it but it’s a lot of fun. Took me awhile to get used it.

I was ready to use the compound, but I had a little fall a few weeks ago and have a small tear of the rotator cuff ... it hasn't healed enough for the compound ... so might have to pull out the crossbow. I haven't stuck anything with the crossbow, so it will be different using it. Have only had it in the woods a few times.

I won't use tree stands anymore so have to figure out new strategies. When my daughter was recovering from a severe accident at the rehab hospital I met four guys who had fallen out of tree stands and were either quad or paraplegic. Haven't been up a tree since.

You see the stories of guys falling out of stands every year. It’s pretty easy to prevent. Just a couple simple safety devises is all you need. Full body harness come with all stands. Or buy your own quality lightweight one. I have lifelines on all my stands 40$, and also use a treestand wingman 120$. Cheap insurance. I’m 100% hooked up from the ground up. If I fall the wingman lowers me to the ground safely, no hanging by the harness You don’t even know you have this stuff on while on stand.
A friend of mine was too cool and never wore safety equipment. A couple years ago he fell while using a climbing stand. He got busted up and laid in the woods for a day till he was found. So preventable.

Today this busted up old warrior came thru. Far from my best buck antler wise but definitely the oldest buck I’ve taken. Way past his prime. He went forty yards after the shot and dropped in sight. He weighed in about 140 LB dressed. I imagine with his age it might be tough so with exception of backstraps and tenderloins he’ll be all ground.
I get pretty consistent pass through shots pulling about 54 pounds with fixed blade heads.

The season just started here and will be good as always. We have such an over run population here they even they a $100 bounty on the does last year. Not sure if that will be offered again this year. The plan was to try and thin the heard in hopes to lower the tick population.
The good thing is a few guys will process anything no one wants to deal with and they give it away to the senior center for community dinners and pick for talking home. So nothing goes to waste.

Yes I’ll make different kinds of sausage, snack sticks, slim Jim’s. I also love straight up venison burgers.
That bounty for does is something. Ticks are a problem. This deer had some, one bloated one was on his sack

Last Sunday went over to the farm to skin and cut up a doe my son in law shot. My son in law was busy sorting cattle so all I had was my oldest grandson to help me. It was awesome my 5 year grandson was actually great help, he loved doing it.
