Can’t get my 05 crownline 202br to start.

sorry I’m advance, all mechanical issues are a foreign language to me. We recently bought an 05 crownline 202br. The first few times we went out we had no issues. About the 5th time we had been cruising about 15 min and we shut it down to hook up a tube and it wouldn’t start and we had to be towed in. I replaced the battery and everything seemed fine. Went back 3-4 more times and then we let the boat sit for 2 weeks. Yesterday the battery was reading 12.67 volts when we left for the lake. Dipped it in the water and it wouldn’t start. Checked battery again ad we were at 12.45. Went ahead and replaced the new battery again looking for a quick fix so we wouldn’t miss a lake day. I still can’t get the boat to turn over. Any help would be appreciated.

well it is not the battery.

when the engine does not start, does it at least crank?

think about fuel, compress ion, ignition. You need all 3 to run, so the engine isn’t getting something

Sounds like you have a multimeter to check the battery voltage. If so you are off to a good start to determine the issue and can get this done.

Assuming not turning over (not cranking) could be several things ranging from bad starter, bad connections, bad relay, bad ignition switch, etc. Do you hear a click when trying to start? If yes, probably the starter but could be bad connections that need cleaning.

Start with cleaning all the connections fm the battery to the starter. And then if still and issue follow it logically starting with monitoring the battery voltage when trying to start. It should drop down a couple of volts to about 10. If not, the starter is not getting any juice. So then check the solenoid on the starter > it should get a +12V ‘signal’ when turning the key to start. See diagram. If not then need to keep following it back.

Check what the voltage is when cranking it.
Pessimistic man also suggests taking the plugs out and making sure there is no water too.
Away from that idea…check the wiring and continuity of the main battery cables to the starter.
Finally…yea yeah…I’m going to mention it…change the distributor cap and rotor. If it’s not that letting you down now…it will almost certainly let you down at some point soon.

Changed the spark plugs and fuel filter and starts hood as new! Just can’t seem to get the trim to work. It’s almost like there’s no Pierre making it to the switch on the throttle

Was it not turning over (cranking) before or was it cranking (wrrr, wrrr, wrrr) and not starting? If not cranking then the spark plugs and fuel filter are not the ‘no cranking’ issue (unless there was water in the cylinders and you cleared it out by cranking with no plugs in which case you would have seen a lot of spray out the plug holes and you still have an issue).

Hopefully you’ve got it sorted. Make sure you got the right plugs for her. Not cheap ! But required.
