Cam follower roller

the roller on the throttle cam (part number 0432572, 1996 Johnson 88) is gone, broke off. Can I just get a sleeve and slide it on the shaft to accomplish the same thing? the part is $12 when i can get a sleeve for pennies. Is it not round?

I believe you want Roller and Sleeve Part # 0432639 - list price is 6.49 US.

Be sure you have the ring to hold it in place - part # 0324678.

part number 0432572 is a cam follower and fits a variety of models but not it would appear a '96 88

Fair enough if you have the facilities to make something but to save even $12 ???? how much is your boat and motor worth ???

All the ones I've ever seen, were held in place with a tiny o-ring. Thiat is on the OMC engines.

replace it, not having it throws the link and sinc off. very common problem.

After you replace it with the correct parts, make sure to do a link & sync. as td mentioned.

This roller, along with opening the throttle, is the component that ensures correct engine-ignition timing.

If anyone else finds this, I have gotten by with using electrical tape when my outer shell of the roller broke. Haven’t had issues while waiting for parts to show up.
