Re: Calling all MidWest Boaters

Our primary boating spot is Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri (LOO) because we have a condo there and really enjoy the lake?s atmosphere and the boating is great outside of summer weekend daytime crowds. Great water, lots of coves to hang in, and very scenic areas (Oh, Yeah, Party Cove is Very Cool, Too.)

Living in St. Louis we do occasionally launch our 17? runabout on the Alton pool of the Mississippi River. It?s a scenic area and big enough to have an easy cruise and chill on a sandbar. Nice to have that boating spot for a weekend that we could not get to LOO.

I would like to see some comments about Lake Kincaid (NW of Carbondale, IL) and Cedar Lake (SW of Carbondale, IL). Both are close enough to visit on an afternoon as an alternate to the Alton Pool Can somebody advise about launch ramps lines; good spots for evening supper; especially scenic spots, etc.

Re: Calling all MidWest Boaters

I'm in Southern Indiana (very Southern!)...

We normally start the season at Patoka since the water level is a little more consistant than other places. Patoka is very clear and clean, but its soooo small. I can run from one end to the other in no time at all. We normally find a cove and anchor out.

Kentucky/Barkley Lakes are nice. Rough on some holiday weekends and dangerously shallow outside of the channel... but the marina's are nice and we enjoy running around to the different places to eat on the water. Its hard to beat Barkley Lodges breakfast and Buzzard Rock for lunch. :)

I normally go to the Ohio river if the level is decent. We normally launch at Dogtown and head downstream to the diamond island area. The beach across from diamond on the KY side is pretty nice and most of my friends are always there. I prefer the river over any other place.... its just fun running for hours one way or the other.

Is it boating season yet??...:D

I make the two hour drive to southern Illinois. A smaller lake called lake Kinkaid. My family has been going down there for 30 yrs. And I have now started taking my boys.
