One Way to Look at It...

"Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country
protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of
illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might
protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this
country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I
correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all
the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the
floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm
hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house)."

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must
add me to your family's insurance plan and provide other benefits to
me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too
is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you
try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who
will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be
there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than
I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and
honest ... um, except for ... well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing
only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can
do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being
anti-housebreaker.

Did I miss anything? Does this sound reasonable to you? If it does,
grab a sign and go picket something. If this sounds insane to you,
call your senators and enlighten them because they are stumbling in
the darkness right now and really need your help."

Posted from the central State of Indiana: Tyme2fish

Tyme2fish - you hit it on the head, and i was asking the same question did i miss something? It amazes me that they can be that bold to actually believe they are entitled to something ofr nothing, go to their country and try that.

Not my words but my feelings. As I stated, it was a copy and past from an e-mail I received from a friend. I wish I could address in my own words what the topic states.
I don't know the original author, but he/she echoes my feelings.

Don't disagree, T2F, but. . .

The issue is ILLEGAL immigration, not immigration.

Using the wrong term has caused too many to view them as the same thing, which they definitely are not.

Could you edit your topic title, please.

Thanks. :)

I hate these emotion arguments that have no basis in economic or any other reality.

Let's say you really do what is necessary to really solve this problem. That is, you develop a tamper-proof biometric id card to be legally employed, and figure out a relatively foolproof method for employers to verify this...

And then impose serious penalties against hiring illegals...

And then, if you deprive millions of illegals the ability to make a living...and they leave...

Then you need to change the real immigration laws to allow vast numbers to come in legally to avoid the inevitable resulting financial collapse

Then you need to change the real immigration laws to allow vast numbers to come in legally to avoid the inevitable resulting financial collapse

Trust me when I tell you the economy is not dependant on illegal labor. When the illegals are gone, it will be called supply and demand - and there will be plenty of supply for that which the demand is willing to pay. Those industries that cannot survive without illegal labor would just have to fail; those things that cannot be produced without the same labor will just not be available until the wage to produce 'em is high enough to attract sufficient labor. Been happening since dirt was new, and the economy will get over it ...

The issue is "legal" vs. "illegal". No identification will ever be 100% foolproof. However, at this point, anything is better than what we have.

Economic issues aside, as it stands now we have no idea who is coming across. I have no issues with people coming here to work as long as we know who they are and where they are.

At this point, "border security" is an oxymoron.

If we make it easy for someone to obtain a work or visitation VISA than the "illegal" part goes away, for the most part.

The VISA must be easy to get, with a background check, and severe penalties for not renewing that permit.
