Buy yourself a remote starter switch Sears sells them and your favorite autoparts don't cost much ,this will keep you from flinching everytime it sparks when you use a wire or screwdriver and sticking your finger between the flywheel and starter,1 lead to the battery cable from the battery on the solenoid the other goes to the small post that has a yellow wire with a red stripe, leave key OFF so it does not start, remote starter switch can be used during compression test and for other troubleshooting purposes

Homemade Jobber!!

Get a plain old household light switch, put some 14 Gauge wire on each side of the switch and alligator clips on the end of the wires. Hook it up from starter cable on selonoid to + on selenoid. Turn it to on when you want to crank it! Or buy a remote starter switch, as suggested!
