ya ive caught 8 lb channel cats on whole palm sized bluegill live while flathead fishing. didnt catch any flats but me and a buddie caught 9 channles. ive boated and or banked 86 channel catfish this season. caught this weird one. think it was either a birth defect or an old injury as a fry. biggest was only 6lbs 7 oz but we had many hits. got to return to the area. the pin shad were everywhere flipping in the lights. definatly holding fish.

sounds and looks like you know where they are Carl.....stay on um !.. ........what is daily limit on those fish ? you know ..I think BobVT mentioned FLATHEADS to me early on and I wasn't sure what he was talking about.....is "flathead fishing" for catfish in general....and you happpen to be catching channel cats........?
I have only caught a few catfish in my time..and not real sure what type they were ...I'm guessing "channels" as I was in a channel..Lake Champlain lock entrence.... Lots of Bullheads though....................?that's not a cat is it? ..anyway ........gotta go yo....Dinner time!

flatheads? there a totally different species than channel catfish. heres a flathead.

this one is me.

they get much larger than channelcats. the world record is 123 lbs.


flatheads wont be caught on stink baits or doughballs ect. there main diet is live fish swimming by. bluegills, small carp, bullheads, suckers are good baits. sunfish or goldfish. they can be caught on fresh cut baits sometimes as well. youll have better luck catching one on a crankbait than cheesebait.
bullheads are a catfish species but catching one of them over 1 1/2 lbs is super rare.
