This is not an electric shift ------ he is not including the wiring harness. Will the standard red plug work?

No the red plug did not come around until about 1973. But it could have had/have one added to it wouldn't be that hard.

My opinion the 69 is more motor than the 81. The 1981 motor wouldn't be so bad if it didn't look like it was thrown down a hill and landed in a mud puddle while it was running. Do a compression test on the 1969 model.

I will, Im SO pumped to go look at this! Its going to look sweet on my boat! Im going to finish up a few last things on my boat, and hopefully take her out sunday or monday!!!! SUPPOSED TO BE 72 HERE IN MASS!!!! :flame::flame: Also he measured it to be 18in, and my transom is like 15.5 now, 2.5 inches shouldnt really matter right?

No all short shafts motors are actually about 18" angle of the transom makes up for some of that. A long shaft will measure out to about 22" it's normal

GOT THE MOTOR! Well, I got it... Theres a catch. The compression was 75lb on both cylinders. He said it was just a bad head gasket. It started and ran pretty darn good. The red plug DOES fit the black one well. Il start it up Saturday and run her alot, spray some seafoam ect... He was asking 4, and I told him 3, so we settled on 325. He also threw in a charging coil and a tank. Im happy. The sprak was also AMAZING! Bright blue! It looks big on the boat, but we will see weekend.

Ive got an issue. I cant advance the throttle? I can do it with the timer base, but when I push where the cable goes, i get little movment and then it stops. Doesnt even engage the carb.

Are you in neutral? There is a safety stop that prevents the throttle from advancing too far in neutral to prevent over-revving.

With the compression, he didn't have the cylinders wet, or it wasn't hot. His gauge looked old to. I might get it warm started and then check the compression again with gas in it. We checked the compression first, then pumped some gas and started it, it did take a min to start, but I just needs to be run like all old motors! With 75lb EXACT on each cylinder im going to assume that its either a busted gauge or line that leaks or something, or the headgasket is busted. By the looks of the outside part of the gasket, it is dry cracking and rotted. But I hope I can get 100lbs warm with gas in her. Il keep you all posted. How would it run if it only had 75lbs on each ---> would it just have less power??
