But am I wrong?

Had a Direct TV receiver bite the dust last week so I call them up and they said they would ship me a new one if I thought I could self install. Hmm, two cords and an electrical outlet, yeah I can manage that.

Today FedEx shows up and drops off, THREE new receivers, no idea why. Call them up and, yes we made a mistake, please ship two of them back. Umm, that presents a problem, the closest FedEx drop off point is 30 miles away on the back roads, 40 miles away if I go around to the good road. That's either a 60 mile or 80 mile round trip and it will take an hour and a half of my time as well as burn lots of fuel, not exactly what I asked for. You will need to find someway to have them picked up from my farm.

Umm, we can't do that.

Well I'm sorry to hear that, perhaps if we take something off my monthly bill I'd be willing to make that trip next time I am going that direction.

No sir, we need them returned ASAP.

Back and forth until the rep. said he'd call me back this afternoon.

Am I wrong for saying I don't want to make this sort of trip for their mistake? It's not as if I caused it, not sure why it's up to me to solve it for them. Thoughts?

Do like I have with Dish when they goof that way, I told them, the extra's are sitting on the porch, when you figure it out, stop by and pick them up. I don't play games with them anymore, they screwed up, it is their responsibility to fix it, you requested one receiver and got three, they want them, they come get them.

I think a pick is in order. You should not be forced to drop them off.

If FedEx delivered them, FedEx can pick them up. And they bring the needed labels with them. Did the extra boxes have pre-paid return labels by any chance? If so call FedEx for pickup.

The important Q - Were you able to hook up the two cables and plug? :)

Good point normally when dealing with dish now a days, they send prepaid labels with the new one, didn't used to be that way.

You are not wrong.

They should email 2 prepaid return labels.

I would then accommodate them by placing the labels on the boxes, and the box on the porch.

They will send a box for the old broken receiver, eventually.

I guess you could tape all 3 boxes together and send them back that way.

The replacement box should have had a return label, unless DTV ism't taking the old busted ones back now.

Re: But am I wrong?

I had purchased brake pads from Summitt that was supposed to fit my application. Needless to say, the website was wrong and they didn't fit. Summitt acknowledged their mistake and arranged for UPS to pick them up. They did and delivered the new pads w/o me ever leaving the house. Pads are in BTW.........

So, it can be done with DTV, if they are willing to work with you...

No, you are not wrong. Nothing makes me more crazy than a vendor forgetting how the relationship works.

You've already wasted more time than it is worth by posting this thread. You should charge them for your time too. Back they go to the porch. Done. Next issue?

Contact Dish and let them know you will set them on the porch and they can have Fed Ex pick them up.

Re: But am I wrong?

Direct must have an account with FedEx/UPS/USPS that they can generate a label, email to you and schedule a pickup. Not that hard on their end ...

Though, I wouldn't open the other two boxes and I'd even consider keeping them outside of the house (protected in garage/barn/dog house). That way if they decided to get on ya', you could claim that you were trying to help them out 'cause you only really received one unit.

I'll bet if you call customer service and tell them you want to cancel your subscription they will ask you why. When you tell them of your delima and the lack of any co-operation on there part, it will be taken care of

Yep, not up to you to spend to fix their mistake. I'd tell 'em if they want 'em back, come get 'em.

Like with all those companies it depends on who you talk to. Call back and explain what happened and I bet you will be satisfied.

Re: But am I wrong?

I'm sure the delivery company can pick them up again. If not then I guess they sit waiting.
Did the same thing here with our version of Direct / Dish (Bell Express Vu) a few years ago. Sent more than we needed and we still have it even after informing them. Been watching it for a couple of years now at the trailer. Free receiver......cool !!!

Better yet, tell them after the 5 day grace period, you will consider them a gift. Next step, ebay!

Or the threat to cancel that Thalasso mentioned should definitely work.
