Re: Bumble Bee outboard

Piece of junk. Think cheap string trimmer, made in China, then think about how long those things last before they break and no parts are available. That's just what that is, a string trimmer with a prop.

Buy an electric trolling motor for the same price, used. It'll push the boat faster than that little piece of junk.

Run away. Run away.

That's what I figured. I guess Tanaka made the thing, but I'm not sure how long ago. Tanaka says parts are no longer available on thier website.

Re: Bumble Bee outboard

That reminds me of the time 20 years ago when my younger brother and I strapped a trolling motor prop to the output shaft of our weed whacker. At first, it couldn't turn the prop without dying, but we ground the prop down to about half the original size until it labored to turn it. As you'd guess, it didn't work very well, but the engine was only about 22.5 cc's. That 50 cc unit is probably 2 or 3 HP, and that prop looks tiny, but pitch is greater. I bet the rpms are pretty high in comparison to a standard trolling motor, which might mean more speed on a light jon boat. Better yet, you could put it on a model boat and with a servo rudder and some electronics, you could have some real fun at the lake. :)

The seagull's are an amazing motor. Big fan prop and all. They will push anything and go for as long as you ask them !!!!
Wish I had one as a back up for my outfit.
