building up transom

I have a center console fishing boat.with the transom for a 20 in motor.the transom is fine. i want to build the transom up so i can put a 25 in shaft motor on it. i dont need the whole transom rebuilt, i just want to build it up strong to support my 25in shaft 140 looper. thanks for any help.

Have you looked into jack plates? They mount in the location of the existing motor, then you attach the long shaft to the jack plate. The jack plate can then be adjusted vertically to bring the long shaft motor to the correct height.<br /><br />They also come in fixed size for exactly what you want to do. Plus they are much cheaper and simpler than the adjustable ones. <br /><br />See this jack plate in the Mega Mall:<br /><br />

<br /><br /> Hi Jacker <br /><br />At $110 it is less trouble than making your own, can be removed without causing any damage to your boat, and comparable to the cost of the pressure treated plywood needed to make your own transom build up. Not to mention the cost of stainless steel hardware, epoxy, fiberglass, etc.<br /><br />Just my 2¢<br /><br />Mark.

thanks mark but if put them on, the water would still make it over the short transom.
