I bought a nice 1969 MFG Caprice over a month ago. Next summer i wanna change out the 1960 Johnson 75hp with something newer, Its raited for 160hp so was thinking 90hp to around 115hp. Tossed around about redoing the transom for a dual 40hp set up but kinda thinking just a kicker wich i have that in the barn already. I really like the c-dory boats with the wheel houses and wanna build a wheel house. wanna start it next summer but do i just make a hard top for the stock winshield wich would be easy but low head room. should i take the boat and just take off the winshield and the front fiberglass bow area and build a wheel house.. I like this mfg caprice its a full fiberglass lined inner boat. Just what i want for fishing...

Re: Building a Wheel House

Welcome to iboats! Can you post a pic so we can get a better sense of the boat?

Myself I'm thinking you could save a lot of hassle by installing a suitably sized tower with rigid bimini then compliment that with a full canvas package that encloses the helm area. That way you can remove it for those nice days when you don't need as much protection from the elements.

Re: Building a Wheel House

well i have a full windsheild and canvas top that snaps across the windshield now. I like doing perch fishing thru October on Lake Erie. I guess its more of the looks of a wheel house that i like. I know during the few mile run out to the fishing areas it gets cold and windy at times.. I will post picks soon, i just need to get a photobucket account first
