Hi folks. Having some brain fade here.

Who made Bucaneer?

Any parts available?

How about the year of this old jewel?

Mod#: 5S12B

Serial#: 636658

It actually runs quite well-lot's of compression and good spark. I'm just worried about the impeller.

Thats a 56 Gale product, a division of Evinrude/Johnson, and later OMC, until the early 60s when this generic mfg. division was shut down. Nice motors, parts are available anywhere you can find similar vintage Evinrude parts...like Sierra Marine. Impeller should be available from places that carry 50s parts...maybe even your local marina/boat shop.

Hey DJ, the impeller should be on top of the cav plate, up inside, just above the lower unit gear case. I believe they were moved there by 56. Before that, they were simple wobbler type impellers placed on the prop shaft. Hardest part of doing the redesigned impeller change/check is getting the shift linkage back in there right. Its doable with some patience. Just hope your impeller is in good shape, course at that age it is probably due for a change.

tim,

Thanks.

Even though it runs OK, this engine may end up being a "wall mount".
