I will use this thread to update our travels around the "Down East Circle Route," a 3,500 mile boating trip. Visit our blog for daily updates and pictures. We'd love to hear from you as well.

Here is a video of us leaving Cape Cod on the first day. The seas were a bit choppy:

Just curious, how much money have you budgeted for fuel during the trip?

Regarding the question of how much fuel I budgeted for the trip, the answer is 3,500 gallons since the trip is about 3,500 miles (depending on how many coves and inlets we explore versus pass bye) we will travel about that far. And the boat averages 1 gallon per mile. I got that average by looking at the miles I ran the engines last year and the fuel I used last year. With 440 hours on the engines, made up of some at cruising speed (30-40+), some at just planing speeds of 19 to 23 in rough seas, and some at trolling speeds of 5-9 mph, the average was 1 to 1. The big unknown question in budgeting for such a trip is the cost of gas per gallon. Some places will charge $3.20+ a gallon and some will charge over $5.00 a gallon. That's a huge spread so to budget you have to guess that it will be on the higher side...meaning $4 and maybe even a bit more!

Very cool! I'm excited for you. For those of us unfamiliar with the route could you post a map?

Where on the Hudson are you in the picture? That bridge looks awfully familiar...

Went to Two Harbors on Catalina Island (Los Angeles County) last week end. Gas was $7.00/Gal. Fortunately we didn't need any.

Not sure of our timing on the St Lawrence, but it is in our sights. Plan on taking advantage of the great food. :)

Wow,... Yer makin' Great headway,....

Shall I pencil you folks in for dinner next weekend, in Chaumont Bay,..?? :D

When you folks come up the East end of Lake Ontario, If ya go Inside the islands, you'll be 'bout 4 miles off my dock,...
If ya run up, outside the islands, it's 'bout 10 miles off route...

The offer still stands, as there's a couple of decent eateries in the village of Chaumont...

Chaumont River, Lyme, NY - Google Maps

Click the link, 'n zoom out a couple of clicks to see,....
My docks are just 100 yards in the Chaumont River mouth, from the route 12e bridge,...
Deep calm water, 'n yer more than Welcome to tie up, for dinner, or overnight... ;)
