Re: Brown motor oil

I had a similar engine in an 18 foot wellcraft that had water in the oil. The only thing it needed was a new head gasket. It is easy to replace. It's worth trying and doesn't cost much. If you decide to do it, here's some tips: I used some permatex copper spray gasket sealer on the head gasket also. The head bolts need some teflon sealer put on the threads, too, since they go into the water jacket. Good luck.

Webster01, you asked the forum for an opinion and the concensus is that it is water....not gas. I say it's water also. Most all used oil will have a gas smell caused by burning gas. Also remember gas is made from ? oil. If you want to fix the problem follow the lead of solving water intrusion.
